South Leinster Pikemen – Marching Band, Storytellers & Mummers

Join the South Leinster group who are meeting at the Community Centre at 3.30pm to lay a wreath at the Croppy Grave, accompany them as they march through the village to the Pastoral Centre for a brief talk on the 1798 rebellion -followed by light refreshments.

Followed by: South Leinster Storytellers – Pastoral Centre €5 Children FREE. An interactive evening of storytelling, traditional music & song where everyone cantake part, including a display of traditional dance by the Mummers.

All under cover there will be fashion shows taking place all through the day, watch the models display all the latest fashions from local boutiques or browse the clothes shops, and market stalls for jewelry, crafted gifts. With a food area and displays by local artists the area promises to be bustling throughout the weekend.

A local club will display the skill and discipline required.

Within a growing population,  their services are regularly in demand and consequently we are seeing an increase in call-outs.

Their open day will give you a chance to seen first hand the professional way these highly trained firemen operate.  It will include a road traffic collision extraction demonstration.

There will be plenty of advice and handy tips to help keep you and your family safe and the children will love the sirens!  Ear muffs are optional!!

There will be a dog agility display and a chance for locals to put their own dogs through their paces on the agility course.

Don’t forget to take your pooper scooper along!

Until recent years the Hunt and hounds were a regular part of our village life.  Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival are welcoming the hunt to our village once again.  They will ride around Grange End and the Gransheen with their obedient hounds and give you a taste of life in rural Ireland in our not so distant past.

We will break at 6.30 to allow for resting and eating time and then at 8.00pm will head towards The Community Centre for a Ceili Mor until 11.00pm.

For those who may be a little rusty on Walls of Limerick, Siege of Ennis or Shoe the Donkey there will be a short demo.!!!  We would also love to see those of you who would just like to watch.  Guaranteed fun and enjoyment for all.

Adding to the ambience and enjoyment of your evening in Fontana will be harpist Ciara Vaughan  .

Dunshaughlin through the years has seen its share of massacres, hangings and murders.

Many locals report spooky goings on, unexplained footsteps, moving furniture, and strange sightings……

Has the exorcised spirit of Rowley Cooke escaped to once again terrify the peasants of Dunshaughlin?

Will we make it without a sighting of that big black dog with the raving, red eyes?

Ah! and then there’s the cloven-hoofed stranger who entices people to drink and gamble – well you wouldn’t be doing it of your own free will now, would you?

Oddball Productions present ‘The Condemned Cell’, directed by Dunshaughlin-woman, Bláithín Fitzgerald.   A one act comedy set in the condemned cell of a prison in rural Ireland in the 1930s.  Joe Dooley, the occupant of the cell, awaits the arrival of the hangman and his assistant from England.   Before they arrive, however, he receives some other visitors, amongst them his estranged wife, Sal;  two prison visitors, who bring him some liquid comfort to sustain him in his last hours; and the prison Governor himself. As the hour of the execution looms, events take an unexpected turn. . .

Discover the rich heritage of County Meath and the Boyne Valley . from our Heritage Centre at The Courthouse – Dunshaughlin, where visitors can enjoy daily guided walking tours of the village, historical  talks and exhibitions on local, national & international history.
Dunshaughlin which is less than half an hour from the centre of Dublin via the newly opened M3 is an ideal introduction to the historic Royal County of Meath- which is Ireland’s ancient capital and is an evocative place much celebrated in Irish myth and legend. . Dunshaughlin is on route to hugely important archaeological & heritage sites such as The Hill of Tara, which means “Sanctuary of the Kings” this  was important as the traditional inauguration site of the ancient High Kings of Ireland ,with visible monuments dating from around 3,000 BC  to Newgrange, Knowth & Dowth which were declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1993. These sites are dominated by three large passage tombs.
The daily Heritage Trail walking tours of Dunshaughlin will tell the stories from ancient  irish settlements – the site of the Crannog,between the 7th & 11th century, through to the Famine Years -mid 1840’s  to the present day and will include tales of warfare between kings and dynasties of varying status , and create  images for us of what life was like down through the years.

A duet of Light and Sound.

Ray Murtagh supports Mary and brings his own unique country style to the stage.  Ray is well known around the county and further afield for his country and western covers.

The Ceoltoirí Carolan group compises 4 harpists, Fiona Gryson, Emma Brady, Caoimhe Harte & Rachel McGuinness, from County Meath.  They will treat you to a mix of Classical and Traditional music.

Key Notes is an Irish-based vocal harmony group and showcases five of the biggest voices to come out of Ireland in recent years. All the members have  considerable international performance experience in a diverse number of musical fields. Traditional Irish music fuses with jazz and opera to give an all-encompassing musical experience.

Amble around our food and street markets, browse the stalls and sample the wares. Relax with a cuppa in the Solheim Cuppa Teashop  and soak in the atmosphere. With demonstrations and entertainment at various times throughout the day the Market area is one to visit and revisit during the festival.

Saturday 24th Sept 12:00 – 2:30pm Kevin Dundon  sponsored by SuperValu will demonstrate some of his simple and delicious recipies to try out at home – Kevin  is already a well-known television personality in Ireland. In addition to owning and running one of Ireland’s most prestigious hotels and restaurants, he is also signature Chef of an Irish Gastropub in Disneyland, Orlando. Kevin has made numerous televisions appearances including slots on Saturday Kitchen (BBC 1) and Great Food Live (UKTV).

Sunday 25th Sept 11:00am  – 1:00pm demonstration of traditional bread making and butter making by Marian Doherty (The Good Food Hall).  So why not join her to sample the final produce and take the opportunity to ask any questions.  This journey will take us back to healty home cooking at an economical cost.  Not to be missed.

2:00pm – 3:00pm  Well known Billy O’Shea from the successful Fairyhouse Cookery school will instill her enthusiasm for food and confidence by demonstrating simple techniques which can be adapted to a wide range of recipes to create wonderful meals to share with family and friends.

Re-live times past as the blacksmith’s hammer strikes the anvil, savour the aroma of traditional baked breads, marvel at the hand knits or watch as a master woodturner creates a work of art.  Traditional crafts and skills will be demonstrated in this area of our festival with lots to enthrall both young and old.

Free facepainting will be available in the Craft Village on Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th from 12 – 2pm.

Sinners Lebanese Restaurant is a former recipient of a “Best Ethnic Cuisine” Temple Bar award and continues to serve patrons a wide variety of tantalising Lebanese fare.
